The early years of amphibious circa97-98
Here is a little trip down memory lane to celebrate the phibz 6th year in the local music scene. There have been a few changes over the years (most notably Nate being a drummer back then, and ex-bass player Garth) but the rock spirit and friendships have always remained, and have helped keep amphibious alive!

This is amphibious outside the now closed down Metro on Thursday 24th September 1998, where they played the Australian Academy of Music Awards.

Back then it was a legit competition where there were REAL prizes (shock, horror). Not that it mattered, amphibious didnt get past the first round.

The bands amphibious played with on the night were DOW JONES, EMPIRE LOUNGE, GINGER, PRETTY DAMN HAPPY, KAISERSOSE, HUUPERCON, THE FALLEN, NXM, and VINYL GROOVE.
How many of those are still around today? Not many thats for sure!

The setlist played by the phibz that year was - Me, Horrorscope, Godzilla, Green Horizon, Country Bumpkin, and Juvenile. And one of the judging panels comments was 'Catchy songs, work on harmonies a bit more, wont crack the market for years'.

This the phibz at the Griffith University Band Competition in 1998 which was one of their first gigs. Again, they didnt get past the first heats but music isn't a competition anyway.

The bands they played with that night were 24/7 (who were called something else back then), and FOUR ON THE FLOOR (who are now called The Boat People)

This is a backyard party that the phibz were invited to play at in Sunnybank. There was about 200 ppl there and things got really out of hand, especially for the band who played after amphibious, whose equipment got taken over and smashed by rowdy partiers.

It was a cool party though!

This is amphibious practising their songs back in late 1997 at the now defunct Black Dog Studios.

The phibz had too relocate to Grunt Machine rehearsal rooms, which was predominately a metal venue. Growing up as a Rock band in this Metal community wasnt the easiest task, but amphibious gained respect by sticking to their guns, and have since had great respect and appreciation for the metal community to this day. Its all music after all.

Bands from that community included Primeval and Fatal who you could find certain members in bands today such as Hotel 44, Laoch, Katabatica and Neotec
